Weathered | RRL Straight Leg Raw Denim (Part 2)

The second installment of our denim journey by the hand of RRL Raw denim is at hand. Today we feature the same previously photographed jeans, however after 6 months of continuous wear. Crotch blow out imminent. Given that we plan on wearing these RRLs till they start falling off, we enlisted the support of NY based Denim Therapy for their reinforcement and rehabilitation. In the third installment of our denim journey, we will take a look at the work behind Denim Therapy that has brought its name into the public conscious, at least among individuals who invest serious coin in their jeans.   1. I thought these were gonna hold up better…. but 6 months and the crotch is going?! Are these not as tough as hoped for? What do you recommend for some denim that’s gonna last longer under heavy wear (without going up to 21 oz Iron Hearts?

    • All raw denim will eventually give, especially when it comes to wearing in the crotch. I understand crotch blow out is so common because of the concentration of sweat in the area which is acidic and breaks down the denim fibers, and because of expected friction and tension. Just as you said, the only way to ensure it sets in later is by going with a heavier ouncage. If your willing to wash or soak them more often, that will also help. Your best bet is to just continue wearing whichever weight denim you have and identifying wear before they become holes and have them reinforced. I’ve done this and have completely stopped the wear in those parts.
